Boston can be a daunting city. The most functional grids you’ll find here are in the windows of an MIT dormitory. But we'd like to take the google-work out of getting here, parking here, and getting out of here. Below you'll find all the information you need to successfully navigate this great city.
FINISH AREA LAUNCH SITE (FALS) - ARRIVAL:
FALS Hours - Please be advised that FALS does not open for Trailer Parking until 7 AM on Friday, October 18.
Trailers arriving before Friday will NOT be able to park at FALS and should contact the Regatta Office if they are unable to make interim parking arrangements. Launching will not be available at this location and trailers planning to arrive early should have noted this in their initial trailer registration.
Bringing a trailer on-site but haven’t registered yet? Unfortunately, FALS trailer registration is at capacity but please contact [email protected] and we'd be happy to suggest a program in your area that is also carrying shells.
FALS Location and Trailer Parking - Boat launching and storage space will be available at the Finish Area Launch Site (FALS) on Soldiers Field Road on the Boston side of the Charles River, between Eliot Bridge and Northeastern's Henderson Boathouse. FALS consists of one large parking lot adjacent to the finish line, and three smaller lots nearer to Eliot Bridge. Trailers will be parked very close together and not necessarily in close proximity to the launching docks. The Regatta will provide racks and space near the docks for storage and rigging of boats during the weekend.
Trailer Directions to FALS - Mass Pike to Exit 18 East, Exit 20 West, follow signs to Cambridge. Stay straight through several traffic lights and cross the River Street Bridge. Once across the bridge, take a left onto Memorial Drive (there will be a Shell station and a Mobile station at the corners.) Stay on Memorial Drive for 1.6 miles at which point it will fork (near the Cambridge Boat Club.) Staying to the left, follow signs for Watertown/Newton. Proceed through the traffic light, and as you approach Eliot Bridge, follow signs for Boston/Newton. As you are crossing Eliot bridge stay to the right and an HOCR volunteer will meet your trailer and direct you to a parking space. It would be helpful to consult a course map to assist with directions.
FINISH AREA LAUNCH SITE (FALS) - DEPARTURE:
All trailers and equipment must depart by 7PM on Sunday, October 20. Below, please find directions on the easiest way to return to the Massachusetts Turnpike.
Pull out of the lot and take a right onto Soldiers Field Road, continue past the Northeastern University Henderson boathouse. There's a ramp to the right, go up that ramp and take a left onto Western Avenue. Follow Western Ave for a couple miles until you reach the Charles River. (You'll know you’re there when you’re forced to take a right hand turn because the bridge over the Charles for Western Ave is a one way coming at you.)
There is a sign at that right hand turn for the Mass Pike. After that turn, take your next right to get on the Mass Pike.
SINGLES AND DOUBLES LAUNCH SITE (SADL):
Rowers of singles and doubles will store their boats and launch from the Singles and Doubles Launch (SADL) off Memorial Drive on the Cambridge side of the Charles River. Drop off is available for cars carrying shells and vehicles will be directed to an off-site parking location. SADL opens at 7AM on Friday, October 18.
Directions to SADL - Same as above, except go RIGHT onto Memorial Drive once you cross the River Street Bridge. The Singles and Double launch site is located just downstream of Riverside Boat Club, immediately before the Magazine Beach Bath House. View course map.
SPECTATOR AND ATHLETE PARKING:
Please visit our website here for maps and information on spectator and athlete parking for 2013. You will also find information on our free Shuttle routes which run throughout Regatta Weekend. Staying near the T? For information on public transportation, please check the MBTA website here. The Harvard Square stop on the red-line is a short walk to the Weeks footbridge and the mid-point of the race course.
Please check the website for updates or contact the Regatta Office at [email protected] (617-868-6200) if you have any other questions.
